I have to apologize for this late post. I did it at about 8:00am on the day of the event, but I pressed “save” instead of publish. So, this is what I did on December 9th.
In an unprecedented event, Illinois DEMOCRAT Governor Rod Blagojevich became the first Governor to be arrested while in office. Among the charges: Attempting to sell the vacant Illinois U.S. Senate seat.
In the early morning hours of December 9, 2008, The Chicago FBI field office contacted Blago by phone to let him know that agents were outside waiting to arrest him. He then donned his jogging suit and gym shoes and joined them outside where he was taken into custody.
Blags was charged with:
1. Attempting to sell the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Barack Obama;
2. Threatening to hold up the sale of Wrigley Field unless the Tribune Company fired the editorial board that has been widely critical of him;
3. Threatening to withhold state aid to a childrens hospital if certain members of their board did not contribute money to his campaign fund.
That third one is the most outrageous and egregious of the three. Imagine extorting money from sick and dieing children. UNBELIEVABLE. Read the FULL COMPLAINT HERE in PDF.
Everyone knows that it is the job of the news media to function as the prosecutors in Republican scandals and the defense lawyers in democrat scandals, and in watching the many nation-wide news reports, one would never ever know Blago was a democrat. ENTER CONSERVATIVE BLOGS.
Blagojevich was elected in 2002 by defeating Republican Attorney General Jim Ryan for the top spot. His victory came on the heels of a scandal involving an outgoing Republican Governor. Gov. George Ryan (R) Jim Ryan had no relation to George Ryan and even though, George Ryan was repudiated by the Republican Party and most Republican elected officials, the voters took out their anger on the entire Republican Party and elected democrats to four of the five constitutional offices and the State Senate which was previously under Republican control.
The fault for this current scandal does not lie squarely on the shoulders of Blago. The hard core democrat voters and independent voters who re-elected him in 2006 share as much of the blame as he does. You see, the only Republican left standing after the 2002 election was State Treasurer Judy Barr Topinka who challenged Blago in 2006 and during that campaign, Gov. Rod wrapped George Ryan around the neck of Topinka like an albatross. She couldn’t overcome even though the scandals started in 2004, two years before the election and the voters re-elected him anyway.
